The non-ring wearing Guy Gardner was first introduced in 1968 in Green Lantern Vol. However, time was short and Jordan was closer, so he basically won the luck of the draw. Jordan received his ring and power battery from Abin Sur. Scott’s costume was red and green with a stylish black cape. Jordan’s costume was green, black, and white. This new Silver Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, derives his power ring energy through a sci-fi power battery built by blue aliens known as the Guardians of the Universe. The Golden Age Green Lantern, Alan Scott, derived his power ring green energy through mysticism. While the hero kept the green power ring, nearly everything else was altered. This time the changes were significantly more drastic. It was a huge hit, so three years later, in Showcase #22, the publisher would try again with the Green Lantern. The first time was in 1956 when the comic company took the Golden Age concept of The Flash and reimagined that concept as Barry Allen. The unfortunate part of it was … look, there were a lot of Internet angry reactions just to the idea of Jack Black.In 1959, DC Comics would, for the second time, reach into the Golden Age top hat, pull out a superhero name and powers concept, and reimagine the hero for the Silver Age. ![]() Because then it's a tentpole and you can make sequels and all of that. And I totally get why they would rather make a serious superhero movie if thought it could succeed. That was the first time I sensed that they were rethinking this, and I'd like to think that it wasn't because they didn't like my movie. They were already asking me, "What if it's not Green Lantern? What if it's very similar, but you change it and make it a fictional superhero so we can make that a straight comedy?" Maybe foolishly, I argued that I thought it was funnier to make it a real take on a real cartoon character. The studio, when they gave me the re-write notes … at one point I had a long discussion about whether or not to make it Green Lantern or whether to create a make-believe character. A lot of it was in my re-write-the studio gave me notes and I did a re-write about a half-year later. "I wrote this first draft, which, unfortunately, is the one that's online. The character is totally unlikable, like they didn't even try, he's just got two goals: to get layed and be semi-famous. I have to give up after 30 pages because I don't see any hint that the story will get interesting.
